Windows 7 Speech Recognition (WSR) on Lenovo X200
May 9, 2009.

I'm using WSR on Windows 7 with a Lenovo Tabletpc X200 with internal array mic and 4 gigs of RAM. It works great but desperately needs a medical lexicon. For example, the word, "radiculitis," is seen as "ridiculous." Using the free Tablet Dictionary's import tool, I imported 1000 medical words, duplicates were automatically parsed out.

After the import, radiculitis is recognized, as well every medical word tested that resides in my import!!!  Stick out tongue

At this point, for my needs,  I'm not going to reinstall DNS Medical.

Summary: The free MS Powertoy called DictionaryTool, allows a user to quickly import a Lexicon of medical words into the TIP of a TabletPC which is shared by WSR. (This can be done on any desktop as well, with Win7. You don't need a TPC).

Using WSRToolkit, yet another fine tool at: http://www.mymsspeech.com, a user can scan charts/docs and improve the accuracy of their specific language model as well as a number of other features! See pictures and tab menus below.

Directions for importing a Medical Lexicon into WSR:

Download the dictionary tool at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/tabletpc.mspx

Follow the directions exactly. If you need .Net software make sure you get the correct version, which is not the latest version. You need the much older,  1.0 not 3.5 SP1. Once installed, Open DictionaryTool, go to File and import your medical word file. It may seem like it is not doing anything but give it a minute or two as it imports in the background.

The dictionary is imported into the tablet TIP which is used with WSR. Both Handwriting and Windows Speech Recognition, use the same underlying store for supplemental vocabularies. Reboot your computer and start WSR!
