St. Mary's Praises Tablet PCs

Evansville, Ind.-based St. Mary's Medical Center has deployed Tablet PCs from Austin, Texas-based Motion Computing in each of its 24 intensive care unit rooms.

The Motion Computing M1200 tablets feature an Intel Pentium-M ultra-low voltage processor, a 40GB disk drive, 256 MB RAM, two digitizer pens and a mobile keyboard with touchpad. They also offer integrated 802.11b wireless network technology and run the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC operating system.

The hospital is using the tablets to offer nurses access to its Care Manager Clinical Documentation system from San Francisco-based McKesson Corp. via the provider's wireless local area network. The clinical application offers access to lab, vital signs, X-rays and other patient data.
