Your EMR will never operate so fast or stable with your wifi TPC, until you experience the new 802.11 Pre-N Technology. I can't wait for these chips to show up inside a Tabletpc.
A few hours ago, I setup an 802.11 Pre-N AP by Belkin. Setting up the AP router was literally as simple as 123. I pulled the wires out of my Linksys Router and inserted them in the corresponding plugs of my new Belkin Router. I installed the CD and configured the Belkin Router in seconds. I connected my TPC to a networked CD and installed the drivers for the N PC card.
I Inserted the N PC card into my Scribbler Tabletpc with the internal wifi turned off. I connected to the Belkin router. I copied a 129 megabyte folder from my Tabletpc Scribbler to my XP server in the other room, The copy took 45 seconds. I pulled the N card out of it slot and turned on my internal G wifi. The same copy took 58 seconds. Copying from server to TPC had similar times. Extrapolate these numbers and seconds can become minutes!
For comparison with a a Desktop 10/100 hardwired NIC card setup: I then copied the same folder from my desktop server with a hardwired 10/100 NIC in 47 seconds! Because the PC speed was so close to the Belkin N I did the test again. With, I suppose the data in cache, the second time it clocked at 35 seconds.
Now you can share your broadband Internet connection farther and faster than ever before with Belkin Wireless Pre-N. It uses revolutionary smart antenna technology to boost wireless network speed and range far beyond that of today's standard 802.11b/g and 802.11a wireless networking technologies. This technology is perfect for larger homes or offices that have a wide area to cover and want to run multimedia and high bandwidth applications reliability.
With a Belkin Wireless Pre-N Router as the central connection point of your network, your computers can share your high-speed Internet account as well as files, printers, and hard drives. Belkin’s Pre-N technology offers backward compatibility with existing 802.11g and 802.11b products, to provide seamless integration into existing wireless networks. In fact, its advanced technology enables Belkin Pre-N to significantly improve the performance of standard 802.11g and 802.11b devices in the mixed network environment.
Pros:
Fastest wifi technology on the market
Compatible with a, b and g cards
Easy to setup and configure using 192.168.2.1, not the traditional 192.168.1.1. This facilitates multiple router setups if applicable.
Cons:
No integrated into Tabletpc yet. PC card will physically stick out of hardware.
No external USB N wifi available. I'd like an external card for wifi desktops!

At Home:
At home I have a Linksys MIMO SRX AP/Router. I have an Intel Mac and a Dell PC hardwired into the Linksys.
I piggybacked the Belkin Pre-n but I disabled the DHSP on the Belkin and gave it a 192.168.1.2 address to differentiate the Linksys at 192.168.1.1.
I then disabled wifi in my Linksys SRX router in the firmware.
I now have 8 wifi APs that show up! 5 are unsecured including my Belkin. I walked next door using my Acer convertible Tablet, into my neighbors house, never loosing the connection but the connection was low. I'm not using a pre-n card in my Acer at the moment, using b/g. Belkin does not sell USB pre-n cards until the Pre-n is
fully accepted. They only sell pre-n PC cards.
Next step is wifi security and configure the parental security settings.
