SimulConsult's diagnostic software is well suited for the mobile Tablet PC platform because:

• the software identifies useful patient findings to check, making it ideal to have the computer when seeing patients
• the software uses a defined set of medical terms that can be entered into a Tablet PC dictionary, making handwriting recognition work extremely well

 SimulConsult's medical decision support software allows doctors and other medical professionals to combine clinical and laboratory findings and get a "simultaneous consult" about diagnosis.  Information about diseases from a large peer-reviewed community of experts is combined to suggest diagnoses and identify other findings that will be most useful in reaching a diagnosis.

    The Neurological Syndromes module is currently in beta version, available free to medical professionals.  The database is far from complete, but it is of some use even at this preliminary stage.  The plan is to run this like a clinical journal, with some combination of advertising or low subscription fees.  You can use the software from the SimulConsult Web site after you have registered and chosen a password.

    The software has some of the properties of a medical journal:  you can use it to help think through your particular case and you can also contribute material for others to use such as descriptions of findings in diseases.  For example, if you have just reviewed an area for a published article you can add the details of the clinical description material to the database, referenced to your article, with the result that you help people make diagnoses and find your article.
