Why buy a Tabletpc instead of a Notebook or Laptop?

1. All Tabletpcs come with XP Tablet Edition Operating System (superset of XP Pro.), that facilitates handwriting recognition, inking capabilities, voice and wireless capability. The TPC will run the same software that is run on a desktop, laptop or notebook. For me, the TPC does everything that my Pocketpc could not do, except fit in my pocket ;-)

2. Convertible TPCs are laptops plus the ability to pivot and convert the laptop to a slate form. All Tabletpcs, even pure slate versions,  have the ability to add on a keyboard, in a sense, providing two computers in one.

3. TPCs have built in speech recognition.

4. TPC have handwriting recognition. Ability to take notes and recognize handwriting.  Write Anywhere, TIP, and third party recognition software can make your chicken scratch into readable text. OneNote is an application which enhances anyone's abilities to integrate their natural method of taking notes and surfing the web. This application is a must have app for the TPC experience to be fully grasped. Journal is another application that recognizes anybodies handwriting, no matter what kind of chicken you are ;-)

5. Mobile users can be freed from a desk. This is because the unit is always in the user’s hands and not locked down to a desk.

6. Wireless networking. You can share your EMR with staff and be mobile in your office, using the applications where ever you are. You can be online, all the time with a nearby hot spot or office Access Point. Imagine having the ability to beam work between colleagues on the spot. Pen it out and send it over-done or just share the EMR in a Triage approach.

7. The stylus really is more intuitive and friendly than the mouse, especially with medical applications and drawings. If you are dubious, just hand your TPC to a child ;-)

8. Power: TPCs do make a slight sacrifice in power for the sake of weight and mobility. Yes you can buy a more powerful notebook, but the battery life will be short and the unit will be pounds heavier. However, the Centrino TPC of today, has plenty of power to equal most desktops. Power is not even an issue these days.

9. Last, and most importantly, the EMR. Any EMR that will work on your desktop will work on your Tabletpc with the added ability of handwriting, voice and mobility.

The REAL question is, “ Why doesn't every doc have one?
